The
Harvard Club have invited SCGB members to attend the following event:
Why do some students make the most of college, while others struggle and
look back on years of missed deadlines, missed opportunities, and bad
decisions? Some colleges consistently offer students good advice and high
quality teaching. Some don't. What choices can students make, and what
can teachers and university leaders do, to improve the students' experiences
and help them achieve the most from their time and money?
"Making the Most of College: Students Speak Their Minds" (Harvard
University Press, March 2001) is the result of Richard J. Light's ten
years of interviews with Harvard seniors about the fundamental questions
of how to make the most of the college experience. Richard J. Light is
Professor in the Graduate School of Education and the John F. Kennedy
School of Government at Harvard University. He has authored or co-authored
seven books and has won many teaching awards. This book is the winner
of the Virginia and Warren Stone Prize awarded annually by Harvard University
Press for an outstanding book on education and society. Professor Light
is an elected Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and
currently serves as an elected Trustee of Wellesley College.
