Within
the boundaries of London there are several country
houses of great historical and architectural interest,
some of them containing superb works
of art. This talk, hosted by Dr. Geoffrey Tyack, Director,
Stanford Programme in Oxford, will look at the art and
architecture of some of these houses, notably Ham
House, Syon House, Osterley Park, Marble Hill, Chiswick
House and finally Kenwood, an eighteenth-century house
on the edge of Hampstead Heath, situated in a sumptuous
setting.
The house, is an elegant 18th century neo-classical villa
with interiors by Robert Adam. It has a world famous art
collection, set against a backdrop of outstanding rooms,
the renowned Iveagh Bequest features masterpieces such
famous works by Old Masters and 18th Century artists.
Outside, explore the meandering pathways, woodland and
lake in an estate where you will find sculptures by Henry
Moore and Barbara Hepworth.
Light Refreshments will be served after the lecture, followed
by a tour of Kenwood House.
