Details: A high performing team can be one of the most powerful tools at a leader’s disposal. Unfortunately, even though most leaders "talk teams," they have groups – and a group, even a well-functioning one, is very different than a team. A group is only as strong as it's weakest member, but a team can be stronger than its strongest member. With a group, leaders may hold back their opinions for fear of overwhelming the members, but with a strong team, leader s can be fully powerful without fear of coercing members into passivity.

Well functioning teams can:
  • Handle the most important problems
  • Make high quality decisions in a quick and efficient manner
  • Increase the chance of successful decision-implementation because members pitch in to help each other
  • Can handle disagreements and even conflict in a productive way
  • And can be an important source of member learning and development
A high performing team is not made up of super members. One can build an excellent performing system with “average” members (because, on the average, we are all average). High performing team leaders build an appropriate system that can get the best out of everybody, so that people perform better than they thought they could.

This session looks at the 6 steps needed to build a high performance team. The workshop uses video cases of team interactions to see what works and how to deal with problematic situations. We will also do exercises that increase our ability to intervene as the team leader or member.
